| Grading Policies | ||
|
Your final grade in this class will be based on: homework (10%) + laboratory (10%) + recitation (5%) + 4 tests (75%) = 100%. Note: Each test weighs 20%, but as a buffer against one bad test, the weight of your worst grade on any one of your tests will be reduced to 15%. If, for example, test 2 is your lowest grade, it will have a weight of 15%, instead of 20%, in your final average. |
||
| Grading Scale: A - 90; B - 80; C - 70; D - 60; F - <60. | ||
| Homework and WebAssign | ||
| On-line homework assignments will be given through WebAssign, which is accessed through http://www.webassign.net. Please login to register the class as soon as possible. Your Auburn global ID is your username, and is also your initial password. You must work on the homework problems soon after classes: problems from each chapter are due soon after the lectures of the chapter. | ||
| WebAssign: Information about this class will be posted through WebAssign, under ‘Communication’. If you are not connected to the web through a computer, use the public IT labs in Parker, Haley, Comer, Life Sciences, or elsewhere. You MUST take the homework when it is available, i.e., before it is due. Most of the problems are taken from the textbook, but the numbers in the problem are changed. Every homework problem should give 7 opportunities. Your lowest 3 homework scores will be DROPPED before your final homework grade is computed. | ||
| Tests | ||
| The tests will be in the form of word problems, and will be closed book exams. You are required to show your work in solving the problems. You cannot bring in any notes or cards. A sheet of formulae will be attached to each test and the final exam. Calculators are permitted during the tests. No make up tests will be given. If you miss one test but have a well-documented excuse, the average test grade of your other three tests will be taken as the grade of this test. If you miss two or more tests, you second and third missing tests will have a score of zero. Note: Due to a scheduling conflict, no final exam will be given this semester. | ||
| Reading Requirements | ||
| It is required that the students READ the scheduled chapters prior to the corresponding lectures. Students are encouraged to ask questions regarding homework problems and lecture material. I will be in my office most of the time everyday from 8am to 5pm. | ||
